Fire & Wine
04:39
|
|||
Winter's coming
We live a shorter day
The sun is hunting
For a place to stay
And Jack Frost's fingers
Are in the wind again
Ragged robin is see-sawin'
In one half of a coconut shell
He can't find the bacon rind
Hunger makes his redbreast swell
Now is the time for fire and wine
Fire for body and wine for the mind
We will sing and play till the break of day
And we will sing Jack Frost away
Cold October bowls me over
Damp November makes me sneeze
Then December cruelly sends
The winter frost to freeze my knees
Winter brings us to the singers
And the drinkers, glass in hand
Roll up smokers, cards and jokers
Listeners all who sit and stand

The Last Polar Bear
04:28
|
|||
When you were the last polar bear
And I was a small patch of snow
Were you lonely?
Did you find me?
A gentle footprint, carefully chosen
Moving slowly towards the snow
I blindly waited, urging you forward
Tonight we don’t have to be alone
And there is nothing left to see for miles and miles
When the tide comes in
And never goes out
When the tide comes in
When I am the last polar bear
And you are a small patch of snow
As the North Star lights our meeting
I watch as you melt in my hand

One More Xmas
05:55
|
|||
Look at the heaven we have made
And the hell for someone else
Look at the baubles shining bright
Glass dangling like our lives
Look at the lovers we have lost
And the words we’ll never say
Who gave me all this fear
And all this love to give away
Look at the stars up in the sky
As we switch the lights back on
Look at the child who’ll never see
Look at what we have become
Remember someone you have loved
But hold a candle for the hate
That burns inside us all
I don’t care what it means
I’m not concerned if it’s wrong
I just want to be little and spend Xmas with my mum
She is the flower that I trod on
On the way to buy this card
A computer written poem
Telling me about my heart
She is the piece of plastic I wrapped up
For a child to undress
He is the shadows in the darkness
The object of my distress
We shall all be silenced
We shall all disappear
And there’ll be nothing and no-one
And now the party is over
Reunited with our halves
We spent the night avoiding
But we can never break apart
And so we’re driving home this Xmas
With nothing but our fears
Keeping us together
Well at least until next year
And the Xmas bells are ringing
With the sounds of breaking glass
And he’s laughing at her
He’s mocking her, he’s making her feel small
Does she want to be little?
Does she want to be small?
Well one more Xmas with him
One more Xmas that’s all

Winter Folk Carol
03:19
|
|||
Once I was a frozen child
Wrapped my little heart in snow
Now near forty winters old
Still searching for a hand to hold
Winter folk, summers will unfold
May there always be a hand to hold
Migrating, displaced from home
Unsettled within our souls
Boat, bank, debt or bed
Our need to feed or to be fed
In the winter of the hours
In the winter of your day
The stranger lights a candle
And welcomes you to stay
May all your Christmases be real
And know that it’s ok to feel
Family could be one good friend
And no-one having to pretend
Winter folk, summers will unfold
There will always be a hand to hold

Calling Me
06:07
|
|||
n this body it’s hard to be alone
Seasons pass like strangers
Strangers are all I know
Calling me
That little voice is calling me
And I can feel a change in me
February
Broken ground
Mother Nature’s fingers
Reaching for my own
Late November
You

Whitethorn
05:00
|
|||
I carried my love from the spring to the winter
I carried her ’til I heard her first cry
I cradled her close, against my warm bosom
But Annie died on the night she was born
Whitethorn, my children you hold
Whitethorn, cradle and grave
Headstone, berries in winter
Sorrow, your thorns from my blood
So fertile are we under this dark sky
Barren the fields, raped of their stock
Pregnant the cure for all my ambition
A condition it seems more often than not
Each day brings less food to the table
Each passing year, there’s more mouths to feed
Annie was spared the hunger of childhood
Relief, like cold water, mixed with my grief
Whitethorn, bring me my children
Whitethorn, to cradle at last
Berries, red are the bruises
Whitethorn, the night will turn black

Stille Nacht
03:48
|
|||
Alles schläft, einsam wacht
Nur das traute hoch heilige Paar
Holder Knabe im lockigen Haar
Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace

We Sing Hallelujah
03:18
|
|||
And we'll sing hallelujah
At the turning of the year
And we work all day in the old-fashioned way
Till the shining star appears
A man is like a rusty wheel
On a rusty cart
He sings his song as he rattles along
And then he falls apart
A man is like a briar
He covers himself with thorns
He laughs like a clown when his fortune's down
And his clothes are ragged and torn
A man is like a three stringed fiddle
Hanging upon the wall
He plays when somebody scrapes on the bow
Or he can't play at all
A man is like his father
He wishes he never was born
He longs for the time when the clock won’t chime
And he won’t be here anymore

Wexford Lullaby
03:59
|
|||
Lulay lulay, my tiny child
Too soon you'll know the world so wild
Yes all too soon you will be grown
And I'll bide here alone, alone
The rushing bellows you shall ride
And the light of the North Star will be your guide
But yet awhile, I'll have you stay
Lulay my tiny child, lulay.
For you shall run in meadows green
And sport with otters all in the stream
And you shall chase the dapple deer
And swim with salmon in the waters clear
To pluck the small birds from the sky
On the tail of the South wind, you shall fly
And take the high hills for your home
Blood of my blood, bone of my bone.
And when at last your course is run
Joy of my joy, my little son
Beneath the sky you'll stand alone
Flesh of my flesh, bone of my bone.
Yes you shall stand on the coal black sand
To cross o'er the waters of the Western land
But now I have you at my breast
Lulay my sweet one, gently rest

Fairytale of New York
06:55
|
|||
It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, won't see another one
And then he sang a song
‘The Rare Old Mountain Dew’
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you
Got on the lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true
They've got cars big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind blows right through you
It's no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me
You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on the corner
Then danced through the night
The boys of the NYPD choir
Still singing ‘Galway Bay’
And the bells are ringing out
For Christmas day
You're a bum
You're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it's our last
