about
Words & Music by O'Hooley & Tidow
After our 2012 song about Anne Lister became the tune to Sally Wainwright’s BBC1/HBO drama ‘Gentleman Jack’, so many of you asked us for a song about Ann Walker, so here it is… featuring the beautiful, pure voice of Gentleman Jack herself, Suranne Jones. Suranne donated her fee to the LGBT homeless charity, the Albert Kennedy Trust.
lyrics
All the words I write to hide
The feelings others can’t abide
Buried down beneath the light
Is it better to be alone?
Command, contain, stride, control
Constant striving takes its toll
Uncompromising as I am
Am I afraid to fall?
You’re everything they cannot see
A warrior beneath the veil
Of femininity
The finest china made from bone
You’ll be the one to carry me home
We met before but not like this
You lift my hand in a formal kiss
Why can’t I meet your direct gaze?
A crowded room demands restraint
I’ve been warned from the glow
So I need you to take control
A fire can’t burn without its fuel
It takes madness and courage to live as we do

Love the complexity of this track and the rising and falling of the violins, and the texture. Makes me want to dance.
Thank you so much for this album. I really love it, and find it really inspiring my own work on the Witchcraft Trials ❤️ tararosehip

It's the hope. Through the sadness and anger at the current state of the world, Grace seems to sing hope and belief that people can, and want to, do better, and build something where we all fit. voxdumnonia
